Nicole Burns is a normal American girl, occupied with normal teenage concerns: boys, homework, preparing for the school dance.
But when she wakes from an accident and finds herself in Nazi-occupied Paris in the 1940s, she’s changed forever.
Nicole is the protagonist of “Anne Frank and Me,” Adrian High School’s fall play, which opens tonight in the AHS performing arts center. Besides giving Adrian theater students a chance to test their abilities by staging an emotionally wrenching drama, the play is also being integrated with Adrian’s curriculum at two grade levels, giving lessons in history and literature a personal dimension.
In eighth grade, Adrian Middle School students study the Holocaust. Then, in high school, ninth-grade English classes read the 1955 play “The Diary of Anne Frank,” based on the writings of a teenage Holocaust victim. Students from both grades will attend a performance of the play on Friday morning.

After starting the season 8-1 last season, the Adrian College women’s basketball team fell on some tough times and finished the season 14-11.
This winter, the Bulldogs are looking for redemption and will try to play strong for the complete season.
“We started off really strong, but died off in the second half of the season,” Adrian coach Kathy Morris said. “We were plagued by injuries and illnesses and just lost our momentum. With everything going around this year, it could become an X-factor again for other teams not just us.”
The Bulldogs were picked to finish fifth in the MIAA this season, but Morris believes her team can do better.

The Leh Nah Weh Native American Organization and the Lenawee County Fair and Event Grounds staff began talking to each other about 6 months ago, said fairgrounds manager Chris Miller.
The Leh Nah Weh tribal council met a number of times on the decision, touring the grounds in July, shortly before the 2009 Lenawee County Fair. The council also explored locations in Tecumseh, Raisin Township and Tipton, but didn’t find the combination of space and facilities they need at those locations, according to a news release.
