After residents made an 11th-hour appeal to allow a privately constructed seawall to remain at a public access point at Devils Lake, the Rollin Township Board voted 4-1 Wednesday to reverse its decision to have the barrier removed.

Ken and Fay Martin sat in their mini-van across the street from the Adrian armory on Wednesday, scanning a list of suggested items to buy for deployed soliders.
“I know I’ve heard before that ChapStick is a very important thing,” said Fay Martin, 70, of Adrian.
“It would be for me,” said her husband, 75.
The Martins and other local residents on Veterans Day picked up flat-rate mailing boxes to send to troops during the fourth annual Adopt a Soldier Day.

Quarterback Drew Collins and the Adrian High School football team have simply been taking what opposing defenses give them.
Recently that has translated into big games for senior wide receiver Camron Moorehead.
Moorehead has emerged as the go-to guy for Collins over the past six games and the connection between the two has helped Adrian put together its best season in eight years.

Adrian Area Fund

Lenawee County contains an estimated $7 billion in private wealth, about $3 billion of which is owned by people in the immediate Adrian area.
And over the next 10 years, about $1.2 billion — $500 million in the 49221 ZIP code — is expected to be transferred as older generations give way to new.
Capturing some of the wealth from those estates and using it to do good in the community is the goal of the Adrian Area Fund, a project of the Lenawee Community Foundation that aims to build a philanthropic fund for the purpose of benefiting the Adrian area.
“Experts say these numbers are unprecedented,” said Jim Kapnick, who spoke about the Adrian Area Fund on Tuesday night at the Lenawee County Historical Museum. “Despite the recent turmoil of the markets, the World War II generation and the Baby Boom generation own more private wealth than any time in our history.”
